DISCUSSION

A.          The Definition of A Perfectionists
According to the Dictionary of Indonesian (Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia), perfectionist has two senses:
1.        People who want everything perfect;
2.        People who believe that moral perfection is achieved if one can live without sin
So, perfectionism is a person's tendency to always have or achieve perfection in everything that we wanted to accomplish. A person can display characters perfectionist in terms of jobs, appearance, or social life.
Perfectionist looking at everything should be total and not to be a little short, ugliness or error. Fuss perfectionist sometimes people look at others from the negative side only, it is because it is not in accordance with her wishes. Though not all that there is in the minds of people perfectionist is also thought by others. Not infrequently the demanding perfectionist other people get better without knowing him also should improve.
People tend to be self-centered perfectionist, everything must be according to desire or imagination without wanting to understand the condition of others. As well as the often demanding others to follow what they want. Even small things can become big things for the perfectionist so difficult tolerance to others. The most prominent impression of the perfectionist is "It’s Up To Me!!!"
But the positive side of the perfectionist is more thorough in doing something, even very careful in the work, that sometimes nothing is done because there are too many things to be considered. Perfectionist fear of failure, bringing the total in the works, besides the creative perfectionist and tactical thinking.
Actually, the perfectionist that essentially do not realize that in this world nothing is perfect. Although it has been tried as much as possible, can only result that occurs is not completely on target.

B.          Characteristics of The Perfectionist People
A perfectionist at work, usually will do everything wholeheartedly and totality. On the other hand, because he wanted to show a perfect performance, this totality they also appear in some of the following characteristics:
1.        Glued on the details, but often these details are not necessary. For example, when working on a PowerPoint slide in the presentation through the PC, in addition to the content of the material, he would devote excessive attention to the design of the slide, letters, font size, etc. Naturally need to pay attention to the beauty of the presentation slides. However exaggerated since one can’t begin to write the contents of his presentation because it is busy choosing a mix of design and font size are pleasing to the eye.
2.        Because the things above, usually the perfectionist takes more time than his peers to complete a job. Some perfectionists can’t meet the timeliness, although most can meet punctuality. Only those who can meet the timeliness usually requires extra effort to do it (they tend to force myself to do this). They become more easily tired but generally the result is satisfactory.
3.        People perfectionist not only can’t accept that his work is not perfect in the eyes but also difficult to accept the imperfections of the work of others. Therefore, one character is fond of criticizing.
4.        People perfectionist always easily 'catch' weaknesses / errors that others did. He also tend to judge things according to the high standards. When these two things, the perfectionist becomes easy to believe in the abilities of others. It is difficult for them to delegate tasks or to work together in teamwork. They are difficult to accept the results of the work of others; always want to improve or change in accordance with the standard of excellence.
5.        People are perfectionists tend to be planned (organized), it is difficult to do something spontaneous, not flexible with changes, and usually become restless and easily irritated / angry if everything goes according to plan / he had anticipated.
6.        As far as possible perfectionist avoid making mistakes, because it is less likely to show when he was not convinced that he is able. Other people often misunderstand and assume perfectionist no confidence (especially in this case the parents misunderstand his perfectionist) but they are people who really understand the capabilities and because they want to look perfect she was reluctant to "appear" to assume he was not quite ready.
7.        Tend not want to be blamed, because it considers itself the most perfect, and most true, because he was always able to easily see the "blemish" of others.
8.        Tend not easily satisfied, and fixated thinking errors / defects already small compared to what he managed to achieve. For example, a perfectionist succeeded in charming the audience with his presentation, get a lot of applause and congratulations, but he is busy thinking about his mistake as there is one word he spoke in the presentation.
9.        Checking repetitive work, to convince myself that it was perfect and because they do not want to make mistakes. But make no mistake, it's not necessarily the meticulous perfectionist. Because tend to stick on the details that are not necessary sometimes he even made a mistake on the part of other more important.

While it was a perfectionist in terms of social life was to be liked by everyone, should always appear "cute", intelligent, and fun. These people always worry if there is no love. Over time they can become exhausted themselves having to think about what they should do to please others so that other people have liked them. Preferred are their needs, criticism from others is their greatest fear. Therefore, the perfectionist in social life generally take a decision in accordance with the norms prevailing in the environment. They did not dare to make a breakthrough or something different / deviate from the general norm for fear of negative evaluation of others. It is hard to accept the fact that not everyone liked it or not everyone appreciates his work or what he had.
There is also a perfectionist with his performance. People tend to worry about not neat or interesting, alarming appearance. There is also a limited perfectionist obsessed with cleanliness, neatness, orderliness.

C.          Impact For A Perfectionist
Impact for a perfectionist such as:
1.        On the Body: Our quest for perfection leads to physical tension and anxiety. Basically, we put ourselves in a state of stress and all the symptoms that drive themselves on stress.
2.        On Emotions: When we are afraid of making mistakes, fear of failure, fear of rejection and fear of success then we will always be faced with frustration or depression when we reach our goal or feel not optimal. We are not satisfied with what we achieved. We become angry not measurable on errors and imperfections.
3.        On the Behavior: Perfectionist difficult to stop working because in their view, they can’t be perfect. They do not dare to take on new tasks, because they are afraid to ask for something stupid or can make mistakes. They hide from others when they pursue certain goals. If they can’t reach, then at least no one knows.

What led to the desire to perfect (perfectionist)? At some point in our lives (usually as a child), we often demand attention and recognition. Then we thought that if we are perfect, meets certain standards and meet the expectations of others, we will be recognized. So actually when we ask for perfection in ourselves, we are doomed to fail. We are easily hurt. If we already get the desired attention from others, we do not feel satisfied because perfection often causes more jealousy.

D.           Reasons Why Perfectionists Should Be Shunned
Here are examples of some cases of people who have perfectionist:
1.        Nelson great responsibility and have to deal with many problems. He regularly analyzes statistics, and production is a priority for her. Perfectionism is often seen as a condition for success in competing in the labor market. Although some may appreciate Nelson efficiency, his perfectionist properties that cause physical problems such as headaches and stress.
2.        Young people can also be affected by perfectionism. As a child, Rita, like school. She tried not to appear ambitious, yet she felt crushed when he did not get the best value. Rita said, "Since childhood, I always compare myself with others who had plenty of time, while I was always depressed and in a hurry. I never get enough rest because there are things that must be done. "
3.        Maria, a young girl, always cry in frustration when she could not draw as well as others. Then, because the ambition is to achieve excellence in the art of music, it is more often depressed and concerned otherwise than enjoy playing the music or song.
4.        Tânia, who try to be discreet and avoid competition, admitted that she still set standards that are too high for himself, at school and at home. He felt that if the work is not perfect, people would not like him. Moreover, Tânia sometimes expect too much from others, which makes disappointed and sad.

Even competence, diligence, and personal satisfaction are important, negative feelings, such as fear of failure, can occur due to set goals that are too high. Parents or others may set a standard of excellence in the field of study or sports, but children find it difficult to meet those standards.
Very superior workforce, which meets the standards of precision (accuracy) and height advantage, increasingly needed. So, people have to compete in the labor market. Another factor causing many to strive harder is fear of losing their source of livelihood. Some workers become like the athlete who desperately sacrifice to break the record. Then, when faced with tough competition, they feel compelled to train harder, perhaps even using stimulants to improve and eventually won-as his dreams. Rather than the pursuit of excellence in a healthy, perfectionism even cause people "motivated by a fear of failure" or "driven to be number one".-The Feeling Good Handbook.
Admittedly, there is a feeling that the things that they do in the arts or sports can always be improved. However, according to Dr. Robert S. Eliot, "perfectionism is expectation that never became a reality". He added: "Perfectionism is a combination of feelings of guilt, fear of losing, and the fear of ridicule."
Therefore, how true the words of wise King Solomon, "I have seen all the hard work and all the proficiency in work, that it means the rivalry of one another; This was vanity and struggle chasing the wind."

E.          How to Resolve From Perfectionists
1.        Write about yourself: Allow yourself to conduct searches in perfection by writing about yourself such as, what is the most you can acquired? What you can avoid?
2.        Looking at the advantages and disadvantages of the perfectionist attitude. Do you feel satisfied, do you still have the people you love, and so forth.
3.        Think about the real reason of your struggle toward perfection. What will happen if you do not do the job perfectly? What are you afraid of? For example the lack of recognition from others, because of the expectations of others, rejection by others, self-denial, guilt, shame.
4.        Trying to be more relaxed.
5.        Describe yourself when you become a person who is completely different
6.        Learn to accept yourself what it is and reinforce self-esteem

Some people think it does not hurt to be perfectionists, because with that attitude they can pursue and push themselves to produce something that is best and perfect. Yes, it is not entirely bad, but if left perfectionist attitude can be bad not only for ourselves but also for others around you.
As already mentioned above, the perfectionists tend to be more easily stressed, tense, depressed, sad, disappointed when things in his life is not perfect and as it should be. If continually left, of course this would be dangerous. Feelings are never satisfied and always see a mistake it will be boomerang for themselves. In severe level, perfectionism can lead to depression, the damage of the various relationships in life (because it always considers all wrong), and even suicide.
Therefore, for you are a perfectionist who is hard to tolerate imperfection in life, realize that perfectionism is not entirely true. Slowly, change the mindset of the department want to be perfect. Because there is no perfect things in this life. Give thanks and accept with pleasure every achievement of anything in your life. Recognize the differences, mistakes and imperfections. Make peace with yourself and do not torture yourself with the thought that all things must be true and perfect. Enjoy your life, while still working and provide a positive contribution to life.
